TEAM WAVE BACK ON COURSE IN THE RACE TO ERADICATE DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

Team WAVE is Racing to Raise Awareness in support of the Family Support Network - Tortola, British Virgin Islands.
Team WAVE will be competing for the cause in the BVI Spring Regatta in March of 2014.
Our vision is to win our division while steadfastly adhering to our mission of raising awareness to help make a difference in the fight to stop domestic violence globally.
Team WAVE's ultimate goal is to help fund leadership training for young women in order to promote abuse-free environments through teaching and mentoring young women. We hope to make a change through education.
Our team of talented women some of whom are offshore sailors and have been competing on the Caribbean circuit for a number of years. We will be racing aboard 'Freedom', a Beneteau First 47.7.

February 15, 2011 - ST. MAARTEN
Team WAVE competed 2011 Heineken Regatta March 4-6, 2011, racing to raise awareness and help make a difference in the fight against domestic violence globally. The Safe Haven Foundation, a non-profit organization in St. Maarten/St. Martin that offers shelter and support for victims of domestic violence, is their local beneficiary.
Team WAVE is a crew of talented female offshore sailors who have been competing on the Caribbean circuit for many years. Racing aboard 'Synergy', a well known Frers 49 designed and built for the 1975 Admiral's Cup, the team won their Class and Division in the Centennial Newport-Bermuda Race in 2006 coming 12th overall out of 250 boats and being the first women in the 100 year history of the race to do so.
Team WAVEs goal is to highlight the need to support mistreated women locally and internationally. Captain Val Doan states, "There is a worldwide epidemic of violence against women, whether through domestic abuse, rampant rape or exploitation in war torn and third world countries. By competing with our all-female crew and raising funds, we are creating a global awareness and asking the public to join us in our efforts".
Synergy owner Lea deHaas is their sailing captain while teammate Val Doan is captains the helm of the organisational side collecting monetary donations, clothes, household goods, etc for the Safe Haven. Safe Haven Director Loyola Seymonson is very excited about the project and, alongside WAVE, are combining forces to make this a successful drive.
The Heineken Regatta Committee has waived the entry fee for the race in a show of solidarity for the cause. The Sint Maarten Yacht Club is hosting a Sponsors Cocktail Party Feb 24th where Synergy will be docked.
